The longest boxing match lasted 110 rounds over 7 hours
In 1893 New Orleans, two men traded blows from 9:15 p.m. until 4:34 a.m. - and the fight was finally called with no winner at all.
The longest gloved boxing match on record was fought between Andy Bowen of New Orleans and Jack Burke of Texas at the city’s Olympic Club on 6 April 1893. It ran 110 rounds and lasted 7 hours and 19 minutes - from 9:15 p.m. until 4:34 a.m. the next morning.
By the late rounds both men were spent, and some spectators had simply fallen asleep in their seats. Referee John Duffy eventually declared the bout a no contest (later recorded as a draw); neither fighter could continue.
The physical cost was severe: Burke is said to have broken bones in both hands during the marathon and needed weeks to recover.
“It lasted 110 rounds, 7 hr 19 min and was declared a no contest (later changed to a draw).”
It was a product of its era - long before round limits - and the record has stood for over a century.
